A meeting, an opening, an outing ... oh my!

It's been a busy past week for the EAPA. We started off with a well received meeting in which images from the "Not at Eye Level" assignment were shown with critique supplied by Larry Bolton, Pete Medcalf and Mary Freamo. A good learning experience for all in attendance. There was some confusion over one picture of wood that didn't seem to meet the assignment until Alex Loshak explained that it was "A knot ... at eye level". Thus earning himself a round of applause!
The juried exhibit opening at the Brockville Country Club the next night was well attended. Special thanks to Kingston Photographic Club members Bruce Gunion and Barry Hanna for making the trip down on a rainy night. It was a big night for Dan Garswood who not only won Best of Show and two other awards but also proved that rumours of the darkroom's demise have been somewhat exaggerated. Jan Medcalf also walked away with two ribbons. See the complete list below. Mary Freamo also announced the theme for next year's exhibit : Time.
On the Saturday following approximately twenty-five members attended the outing to The Boneyard near Cardinal ... an amazing turnout. We expect to see you all for the night shoot in January :) After lunch at the truck stop some people went back for more shooting. We hope to see some of the images at a future meeting (and possibly in next year's juried exhibit!).

Jane Topping wins Art in the Park Contest

EAPA member Jane Topping's water colour, entitled "Moonlight Encampment", was the winner of the St. Lawrence Islands National Park 5th. Annual "Art in the Park Contest" held in September. The theme for the contest this year, as 2011 celebrates Parks Canada's 100th. birthday, was "Visitors to the Park in 1911". The painting now becomes part of St. Lawrence Islands Park's permanent collection.

Entries for the contest were displayed in conjunction with the TIFFA (Thousand Islands Fine Art Association) Annual Art Show and Sale held at St. Lawrence Islands National Park, in Mallorytown.

Congratulations Jane!

Prescott Outing Jan. 22

About a dozen club members participated in the outing to Prescott on January 22nd. A very good turnout considering that , as Hank from Corner Gas would say, it was "colder than a witch's mitt". The sun , however, was shining when we met at 10:00 and spirits were high. A break for coffee at 11:30 turned into a pleasant lunch at O'heaphy's. A number of the less mentally stable members continued shooting after lunch .. kidding .. sort of. All in all a good day. Hope to have some photos up soon.

Christmas Party, Joe Shipton Award, and more

Well the new year is upon us, the holiday season is past and once again it's time to play "catch up".
We've finally added a photogallery of EAPA's images from the 2009 Multiclub Outing. The 2009 M.C. was held in Brockville and it is perhaps no surprise that EAPA had the high score since we had nineteen members participate versus six for Kingston and one for Napanee. We've also added a gallery of the recent "Motion" assignment.
The Christmas party this year was most graciously hosted by Leslie Wood and Colin Dyke. Lovely setting, good food, good company ..... nuff said!
The Joe Shipton Award was presented at the Christmas party by Mary Freamo to a very deserving Peter Medcalf. Congratulations Pete!
This isn't the first award for Pete this year. In June Pete was presented with an Emeritus Award from the BioCommunications Association. Check out the BCA fall newsletter for more information (pages 4-5).
An Outing to Prescott is planned for January 22 from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm followed by lunch. More details to follow. Should be fun so mark your calendars.
Addendum : We should also have mentioned that Pete took first place for his photo (page 6 in the newsletter) at the BCA Post Conference workshop.
